A influência do habitus no trabalho prisional: repensando o fenômeno da prisionização

Abstract

This article investigates the differences between the concept of habitus, according to Pierre Bourdieu, and the phenomenon of imprisonment, described by Donald Clemmer, analyzing its manifestations and implications in the prison environment for both inmates and staff. Habitus, according to Bourdieu, refers to a set of internalized dispositions, socially shaped throughout life, that guide the practices and perceptions of individuals in different contexts. Imprisonment, according to Clemmer, describes the process by which inmates and staff assimilate the prison subculture, gradually incorporating its norms, values, and behaviors. This study seeks to understand how these adaptations affect the identity and behavior of those involved, distinguishing the transformative effects of habitus and imprisonment in the prison environment. The analyses highlight the consequences of these changes for the social reintegration of inmates and for the role of staff, addressing the ethical and social implications in the post-prison context.
